Amerisource Bergen

AmerisourceBergen is an American drug wholesale company that designs and delivers solutions for unparalleled access, efficiency, and reliability to move health forward. They provide drug distribution and consulting related to medical business operations and patient services. They also distribute a line of brand name and generic pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter health care products and home health care supplies and equipment to health care providers throughout the US.

One of their product teams aimed to create an integrated data analytics platform named PHI (Practice Health Insights). This platform enables clients to access diverse data metrics derived from their different AmersourceBergen software subscriptions, with a focus on two specific applications: SmartRX and InfoDive.

The client possessed a proprietary design system offering guidelines for aligning the application with Amerisource/Cencora branding. However, there were no specific requirements for data visualizations. Serving as the UX/UI specialist and lead for all design efforts on the project, I proposed different types of data visualization charts and visualization best practices compatible with the ApexCharts.js framework employed by the development team.

Approach

Research

Conducted user interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis to understand user pain points and industry best practices. Gathered insights into user needs, behaviors, and preferences.

Strategy

Developed a comprehensive UX strategy focusing on simplifying navigation, optimizing task flows, and creating a visually appealing design. Aligned the strategy with the client's business goals and target audience.

Visual Design and Brand Alignment

Implemented a user-centric design approach, creating prototypes and mockups for iterative feedback. Ensured a responsive design to accommodate users across different devices and screen sizes.

Implementation

Collaborated closely with Amerisource Bergen's development team to implement the design changes. Conducted usability testing throughout the development process to gather real-time feedback and make necessary adjustments.

The AB product team sought to enhance its marketing endeavors through a collaboration with Preveta, a company specializing in a data-driven cancer care coordination platform designed to improve patient outcomes for healthcare providers. Specifically, the product team requested mockups illustrating how Preveta's data points could seamlessly integrate into the PHI platform for clients subscribing to Preveta’s professional-level subscription.

In addition to the aforementioned initiatives, the marketing efforts extended to exploring potential avenues for Amerisource partners to engage in paid advertising within the PHI platform. The goal was to strategically integrate advertising opportunities within PHI, fostering a symbiotic relationship that maximizes the platform's utility for partners while maintaining a user-centric and unintrusive experience for users.

The PHI digital platform effectively tackled Amerisource Bergen's challenges, delivering users an efficient and enjoyable experience while garnering satisfaction from leadership. This project underscored the significance of a user-centered design approach in enhancing overall business outcomes and has subsequently opened avenues for additional UX/UI projects with other Amerisource product teams.
