HD Supply

HD Supply, a leader in industrial distribution, was undergoing a comprehensive digital transformation initiative. This effort encompassed various aspects, such as warehouse management, supply chain optimization, and improving customer relationship management. As a crucial part of this transformation, HD Supply was looking to face a critical challenge concerning order accuracy. With a staggering 50% of shipped orders experiencing issues, the company urgently needed a solution. The leadership sought not only to address this immediate problem but also to refine their vision for a suite of AI-enabled analytics tools that could empower frontline workers in their decision-making processes.

As the UX/UI consultant for the project, my role was to ensure that the analytical solutions not only met the technical requirements but also prioritized a user-centric design approach to a mobile application to be used by auditors in the field. This involved closely collaborating with the Aspirent development team, HD Supply leadership, and end users to create a seamless and intuitive user experience throughout the decision-making process.

One of the key components of my design strategy was the establishment of a comprehensive design system. Leveraging the robust and user-friendly principles of Material 3, I embarked on creating a system that would not only align with the client's brand but also enhance the overall user experience across the application. Below shows a few of the elements and components:

Approach

User-Centric Research

  • Conducted extensive user research and shadowing sessions with auditors to understand their workflow and pain points.

  • Identified opportunities to enhance the auditing process through intuitive design.

    Prototyping and Iterative Design

  • Developed interactive prototypes of the mobile app, incorporating feedback from auditors and stakeholders.

  • Iterated on the design to ensure that the checklist format was intuitive and efficient for auditors to navigate.

    Visual Design and Brand Alignment

  • Designed a visually appealing interface that aligned with HD Supply's brand identity.

  • Ensured clarity in data visualization to enhance the auditors' ability to identify and correct order issues.

    Integration Planning

  • Collaborated with the development team to plan the seamless integration of the application with SAP.

  • Ensured a smooth transition between the mobile app and SAP for real-time data access.

    Usability Testing

  • Conducted usability testing with auditors to validate the effectiveness of the mobile app.

  • Gathered feedback to make refinements and enhancements before deployment.

The project played a pivotal role in addressing urgent issues while laying the groundwork for a broader vision of AI-enabled analytics tools. By adopting a user-centric design approach, I successfully introduced a native mobile app that streamlined the auditing process for frontline workers. This project marks the beginning of a transformative journey, where technology and user experience converge to empower decision-making and drive efficiency in critical business processes at HD Supply.
